The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

As any major honors show draws close, you'll find an outcry for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of followers with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
